First Aid Instructor Recertification

Canadian Red Cross

Prerequisite

The Canadian Red Cross has updated the recertification process for instructors. Please read the following requirements closely.

  • In order to recertify, you must take the HUB (core information update – 4 hours) and a SPOKE (any given discipline-specific component – 4 hours per Spoke).
    • Types of Spoke include First Aid Instructor, Basic Life Support, Remote First Aid, etc.
    • You must be currently certified as an instructor in a given Spoke in order to recertify that Spoke.
  • The Hub must be completed in advance of the Spoke.
  • If you have a valid (current, not expired) Hub, you do not have to re-take the Hub each time you take a Spoke. For example, if you take the Hub and First Aid Instructor Spoke in January, and then the Basic Life Support Spoke in June, the Hub is valid for both.
  • A current Canadian Red Cross First Aid Instructor certification.
  • You must have taught a minimum of three Canadian Red Cross First Aid Program courses during the three-year certification period.
  • One course must have been taught in each discipline the Instructor is seeking recertification.
