Basic Life Support - Blended

Nursing Students

Titan Health and Safety provides discounted Heart & Stroke Basic Life Support courses to students in Alberta Colleges and University Nursing programs.

Most nursing students are required to take a Heart & Stroke Foundation Basic Life Support course. Nursing students will need their BLS certificate before beginning any practicums.

Basic Life Support (BLS) is the foundational course for healthcare professionals and trained first responders who provide care to patients in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings.

BLS is the cornerstone program for healthcare professionals. As the gold standard, Heart & Stroke’s BLS training courses teach the theoretical and hands-on skills needed to respond to medical emergencies and drives the best possible patient outcomes.

Course Content
  • Chain of Survival 
  • 1-rescuer / 2-rescuer CPR 
  • High-quality chest compressions with a feedback device 
  • Multi-rescuer team CPR 
  • Adult, Child and Infant CPR and relief of choking 
  • Use of an AED 
  • Effective ventilations using a barrier device and bag-mask device 
  • Opioid-associated life-threatening emergencies 
  • Role of the CPR coach; Maternal cardiac arrest; Anaphylaxis; Drowning; Heart attack and stroke; and Other life-threatening emergencies 

Part 1: Online Learning *

  • Complete any time! Day or night. 
  • Complete at your pace! Save your progress and return. 
  • After registering, you will get a link within 1 business day. 
  • If you register on a weekend, you will get the link on Monday (or following business day). 
  • Schedule your classroom learning within 45 days to complete the course. 

Part 2: Classroom Learning

  • Finish Part 1 first 
  • Attend Part 2 within 90 days of completing Part 1 
  • Learn practical, hands-on skills 
  • Complete the course to get your 1-year certificate
