In the First Aid for Opioid Poisoning Emergencies course, you will become knowledgeable and confident in how to respond to an opioid poisoning emergency, including how to administer nasal naloxone. You will learn more about opioids and naloxone and how they affect the body and will explore ways to reduce the influence of stigma.

Who can take this course?

  • This course is designed for ayone 16 years of age and older who wants to learn first aid skills and knowledge to prevent, recognize and respond to an opioid poisoning emergency.
  • This course has no prerequisites.

  • The scale of the opioid crisis in Canada
  • The effects of stigma
  • What opioids are and how they affect the body
  • Naloxone and what it does
  • How to help in a suspected opioid poisoning emergency (Check, Call, Care)
  • How to care for yourself during and after a crisis
  • There is also information at the end of the course about how to get your own naloxone kit!

Course Length

  • Approximately 60 minutes, depending on the individual.
